Get Your Uninsured Patients Insured via WCMS During Next Open Enrollment Period (Nov. 15-Feb 15)

November 7, 2014

WCMS has a cadre of fully trained and certified Health Access Counselors (HAC) ready to help enroll as many uninsured people as possible, particularly during open enrollment periods.

What does this mean for our physician members?

  • In Buncombe County, this means that WCMS HACs can help enroll your uninsured patients with incomes up to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) into either Medicaid, Medicare, Project Access® or the Health Insurance Marketplace (HIM) as eligible, in order to procure either a payer source or charity care as the case may be. WCMS will continue coordinating wraparound services (screenings, procedures, specialty care, labs, medications, DME, interpretation...aka Project Access®) for low-income, uninsured Buncombe Countians up to 138% of FPL that complements the regional strategy of getting as many residents as possible into patient-centered medical homes. If you are a current Project Access® physician volunteer (meaning you currently refer your patients to PA) and would like would like to have a trained, certified HAC co-locate in your practice to help enroll your uninsured patients, please contact WCMS staff at cac@mywcms.org to sign up.
  • Outside of Buncombe County and in our 15 remaining counties, WCMS HACs can help enroll your uninsured patients into either Medicaid, Medicare or the Health Insurance Marketplace (HIM) as eligible, but not Project Access® which is Buncombe only, in order to procure a payer source. While we are happy to help all comers, our focus with those wanting to enroll in the HIM will be on patients who fall between 100-400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) as subsidies are available to help this lower-income population.  If you would like to have a trained and certified HAC co-locate in your practice to help enroll your uninsured patients or partner with us to organize a community-wide effort to sign people up for insurance, please contact WCMS staff at cac@mywcms.org.
  • WCMS collaborates with OnTrack Financial to provide health literacy classes designed to help the newly insured understand their insurance plans and how to budget for them, so they stay insured.

We are proud to be able to offer free, in-person assistance that is objective and unbiased. It is in our best efforts to help patients/consumers understand the full range of their health coverage options, allowing those patients and consumers to make more informed decisions about their health.
