WCU develops face shields for WCMS to distribute

April 16, 2020

Dr. Patrick Gardner, Director of the RAPID CENTER at WCU helped organize his students and engineering faculty to manufacture face shields using 3D printing technologies. Dr. Lane Perry, Executive Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning at WCU, then developed an initiative to connect with WCMS and other community partners across WNC to distribute these face shields to practices and providers in need.

WCMS was approached by Dr. Lane Perry guaging the need for face sheilds among providers in WNC. We received an immediate response and quickly realized that there was a significant need among a variety of medical facilities. We organized communications with key contacts at each facility in need and have reached out to obtain an exact quantity of face shields needed per organization. WCMS will recieve the first batch of face shields from WCU this week and begin distribution immediately.
