Dr. Brian Ling Memorial Scholarship Awarded
July 14, 2016
The Western Carolina Medical Society is pleased to announce Abhishek Das as the 2016 high school senior recipient of the Dr. Brian Ling Memorial Scholarship. Abhishek, who graduated from TC Roberson, sent a hand-written letter to WCMS to express his thanks for being awarded and to tell us:
“I feel incredibly honored and overjoyed to be the recipient of this generous scholarship… I have selected UNC-CH to pursue my undergraduate education (and will) participate in Honors Carolina at UNC-CH, a program that promises to afford me opportunities in research, leadership experiences, internship placements…while being mentored by faculty. In the future I plan to pursue a Biomedical Engineering major, with plans to work in the healthcare field.”
About the Dr. Brian Ling Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Ling was a well-respected internist and nephrologist with Mountain Kidney and Hypertension Associates in Asheville, North Carolina. He was known for providing excellent, patient-centered care, and has been variously described as “a rare and wonderful human being” and “a brilliant clinician.” Dr. Ling died in March 2006 at the age of 50. His patients knew him for his compassion, gentle bedside manner and selfless dedication. His partners at the practice appreciated how hard and intensely Dr. Ling worked for good patient care.
The former Buncombe County Medical Society Alliance created this scholarship in Dr. Ling’s memory. Today, WCMS works collaboratively with the Community Foundation of WNC to continue the tradition. If you are interested in contributing to the Dr. Brian Ling Memorial scholarship, contact Lezette Parks
