December 1, 2020, Asheville, NC- The Western Carolina Medical Society Foundation (WCMSF) based in Asheville, NC was awarded a grant from WNC Bridge Foundation, also based in Asheville. The award is a one-year grant of $65,000 to go towards funding WCMSF’s Wellness Emergency Connection Access Network (WE CAN) project, which is an expansion of WCMSF’s Project Access® program.
The grant will help Project Access® and the WE CAN project address the urgent health care needs of more than 550 low-income, uninsured patients in Buncombe and Madison counties in 2021. Project Access® connects low income, uninsured people with comprehensive low- or no-cost healthcare when they need it most through a volunteer network of over 700 physicians, providers, and community based organizations.
“Thank you to WNC Bridge Foundation for their continued support. This investment in Project Access® will allow us to continue working to address the many needs of the communities in Buncombe and Madison counties such as access to specialty health care services, access to food, and utility assistance as we to work to move health care upstream and address the social determinants of health and the well-being of the person as a whole,” says Mariela Solano, Director of Health Access and Equity Programs at WCMS.
The WCMS Foundation is thankful to have the backing of WNC Bridge Foundation to continue working to address the many needs of our Project Access® patients, such as access to comprehensive health care services, access to food, and utility assistance.
