SAMHSA Grant Establishes First Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in WNC

May 20, 2020

SAMHSA has recently awarded the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) a two-year $4 million grant to provide vital services for people with serious mental illness and substance use disorders across 18 counties in Western North Carolina.

Funded in part through CARES Act, this grant will enable MAHEC to provide comprehensive care for more than 2,500 adults and children, including uninsured and underinsured individuals with serious mental illness, opioid and substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions—regardless of their ability to pay.

As the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in Western North Carolina, and only the fourth CCBHC in the state, MAHEC’s behavioral health safety net will significantly expand access to mental health and addictions treatment. Many of the services under this grant are available now.
