About Us:
The Western Carolina Medical Society’s Foundation addresses issues of access to quality health care and disparities in health in minority populations. The Foundation’s flagship program is Project Access. Created in 1996 by physicians, Buncombe County Project Access is a comprehensive, volunteer network of over 650 primary care and specialty physicians serving at no charge over 3,600 low-income, uninsured people annually at a value of over $14 million per year. For more than 33 years, Pisgah Legal Services has provided free civil legal services to help very low income people meet their most basic needs and bring about significant, lasting improvements in their lives. PLS helps people avoid homelessness, escape domestic violence, access health care, and/or secure subsistence income. PLS provides services in seventeen counties of Western North Carolina.
