Interpretive Services for Patients and Providers

The WCMS Interpreter Network (WIN) provides medical interpretive services for patients in Western North Carolina, ensuring clear communication in healthcare for patients or providers. All Project Access patients are eligible to receive free interpretation services as part of their healthcare plan through the program.

Don’t Let Language Barriers Come Between You & Your Patients

We provide interpretive services to practices for appointments with limited English proficient (LEP) Project Access patients at no cost to the patient or the provider. This includes multi-hour chemotherapy infusions, physical therapy, surgery, and more.

We obtain grants and donations to offer free interpretive services to providers who serve low-income, uninsured LEP patients in rural and underserved counties in Western North Carolina. WIN continues to work to increase access to care for all LEP individuals in our region.

What to Expect:

  • Expert Interpretation & Translation Services

WIN offers in-person or over the phone interpreting services in spoken languages, American Sign language, and translation of documents in 12+ languages. With easy scheduling, appointment confirmations, and affordable rates, we ensure seamless communication in healthcare and other businesses.

  • Qualified, Trusted Interpreters

Our interpreters are language-proficient, trained in medical interpretation, culturally competent, and HIPAA-compliant, adhering to industry standards and the National Interpreter Code of Ethics.

  • Multiple Spoken Foreign Languages

We offer interpreting services in different languages onsite, by phone, and/or video. Our interpreters are fully trained to perform with accuracy and clarity. Our interpreters have experience in different businesses such as community events, finances, hospitality, education, social services, tourism, legal, and most of them are certified as medical interpreters. Our services are provided within confidentiality, ethical and standard practices.

  • Certified American Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI)

ASL interpreters are certified professionals that are proficient in American Sign Language, with plenty of experience in the medical field as well as other businesses. The American Sign Language Interpreter is trained to perform in settings that require advanced terminology. Different from signers, who are individuals that have learned some signs and can communicate in a casual environment.

  • Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDI)

CDI interpreters are individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing that have been trained and certified. They are a great communication component during complicated or complex situations as they better understand deaf communication and culture. CDI are often required to team up with American Sign Language interpreters to provide a better communication among all parties involved.

CDI are usually needed for:

  • Foreign deaf individuals that use different sign language
  • Individuals with limited American Sign Language proficiency
  • Deaf/Blind individuals or with limited vision
  • Children and/or native signers
  • Critical situations such as psychiatry, legal, emotional crisis, etc.

We highly encourage deaf individuals to ask for desired interpreting services to their providers, likewise providers to work with ASL and CDI for a better communication with patients. For further information you can visit: Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH).
